Plenty of people grew up reading (and being totally freaked out by) R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. With titles like “Welcome to the Dead House,” “Stay Out of the Basement,” and “The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb,” they’re age-appropriate horror stories that are a favorite for young book-lovers who enjoy a good scare.
But with over 100 books published, have you ever wondered which stories were rejected and which titles were ditched? While Stine claims that it was “all spooky fun, try telling that to those narcs that make all of the decisions.” bahaha!
R.L. Stine teamed up with Funny or Die to make a video for fans revealing a few of his ideas that didn’t quite make it to the public and, honestly, I kinda (definitely) wish some of these had made it to the bookstore shelves.
“The Toilet Swears at Sundown” is questionable, as is “It Came From My Nose” and “The Flatulent Ghost,” but “The Police Killed Biggie and I Have Proof” sounds totally intriguing.
The author was apparently sued by Britney Spears for “Oops I Did It Again (Cannibalism)” and one of the most successful Y.A. authors of our time couldn’t believe the higher-ups didn’t go for “Holy Smokes! My Grandma Tokes.” You can’t deny that “The Haunted Bidet” would have had some truly scary potential and the same goes for “Ghost Pubes.” Yep, GHOST PUBES! Yowza.
Check out the video below to hear about more of the stories and titles we could have been enjoying (but should probably be thankful that we didn’t) and be sure to have a good laugh.
Btw, yes, this is all silly fun! 😉
