Kesha Says a UFO Sighting Inspired Her New Album

After years of legal battles that have prevented Kesha from releasing new music — not to mention had fans and stars alike rallying around the singer to #FreeKesha — she’s now back with a brand new album, “Rainbows” (due for release on August 11). And while we might assume that her past struggles and future hopes might be the motivation behind her new music, she’s just revealed that it was actually a UFO sighting that inspired her album.

“I was in Joshua Tree, totally sober,” Kesha told the Zach Sang Show. “Let me preface – completely fucking sober. I think people would be like ‘She was on acid’ or something. I wasn’t. I was on nothing. I was a totally sober Sally, just a lady in the desert.”

It seems safe to say that Kesha wants us to know that she was sober at the time.

“I look up in the sky and there’s a bunch of spaceships,” she continued. “I swear to God, there were like five to seven and I don’t know why I didn’t, like, try to take a picture of it. I just looked at it. I was sitting on a rock and I was like, ‘What in the hell is that?’ I was trying to figure it out and then they went away. And then they came back.”

With her album art featuring UFOs and one song blatantly called “Spaceship,” it’s clear that Kesha is feeling that other-worldly vibe with her new music.
