Josh Alan was born in 1983 in a small, paranoid town on the outskirts of Houston. He studied painting at Texas State University. After moving throughout Texas he eventually made his way back to Houston, where he now lives and works.
Alan’s work is expressive and dynamic. It transitions the familiar into obscurity and returns it back to the viewer. The geometrics of his collage-based photography converge faces and figures juxtaposed with texts. His work, which focuses on American mythology and iconography, is achieved through combinations of disciplines including collage, photography, and digital processes.
