Art from Jan Creelman / Toronto, Canada
From Jan Creelman:
I am a Toronto-based Batik artist working in fibres and on paper but always 100% cotton. Batik uses various resists, like hot wax, to prevent colour from entering an area of choice. When I work, I am interested in the colour that results outside a predetermined shape and I value the effects of empty space as well as form. Like life itself, the unexpected can be the very path that results in deeper insights about daily affairs. My hope therefore, is that the viewer might see and consider what is present here through resistance, listen to the silence and contemplate their daily travels as they are touched and turned by my obstructions. These are samples of recent work. Please visit my website for more!
